After a very hectic few months, I have had some time to reflect on the activities completed this year and will share with your some learning’s that I have discovered along the way.
The first event this year was “Australia Day BBQ” at Brick Makers Park on 26th January 2013. The BBQ, provided a fantastic avenue to meet new people. I also discovered that no matter how hard we try to look different from outside still we all are same from the inside. I find it quite sad to think that these days we are more focused on out side appearances. Let’s hope things begin to change and people learn that it’s on the inside that counts.
The second event this year was “Clean Up Australia Day” on 3rd March, with the focus once again around Brick makers park. Fifteen to sixteen individuals helped clean the park, including John Nguyen, Liberal Candidate for the seat of Chisholm. We had a very enjoyable and fruitful day.
Between us we collected;
- 12 bags of rubbish
- 1 shopping trolley
- 1 tyre with rim
- 1 bumper bar
- 3 steel bars of about 4 -5 meters each.
- 1 red plastic bollard.
In all, despite the wet weather, Clean Up Australia Day was deemed a great success. In total the day saw an an estimated 550,330 volunteers cleaning up at 7,341 sites. That’s an estimated 16,150 tonnes of rubbish removed from our prized Australian environment.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support so far, without your dedication, hard work and donations we will not be able to achieve our fundraising target.
